Start with the business handoff

An interface exists to support a business process. Describe who relies on the exchange, what information is required and what happens if it arrives late or cannot be processed. Those answers should shape the technical design.

Make ownership explicit

Agree which system owns each piece of information and who can authorize a change. Record interface contracts, mappings and dependencies so that future enhancements do not rely on unwritten knowledge.

Design the exception path

Plan how failed transactions are detected, reviewed and safely retried. Give the operating team enough context to understand the business impact without exposing unnecessary sensitive information.

Review connections as systems evolve

Applications and business processes change. Keep interface documentation current and review dependencies before upgrades. Reliable integration is maintained through clear ownership, testing and operational feedback.
